Overview of Midterm
Today I will be looking at an overview about the midterm which my partner Lucca and I created.
First, discussing the storyline about our movie "The Bird Watcher," it follows a teenager, who goes by the name Eric but this isn't revealed in the movie, who is getting ready to leave his house to bird watch. We used costume design, like a tucked in shirt, glasses, and binoculars to show that Eric was more of a nerd. The movie begins with a slower pace as Eric gets ready but as soon as he starts walking out the door we played a sting which cuts out when Eric leaves his house and shuts the door to show a build of tension, but also show that where he is going next is an area of conflict or where the climax of the movie will occur, the woods/the nature preserve.
Following Eric, the scene cuts to the nature preserve where Eric is about to enter the woods. Although something catches Eric's eye. Eric notices on the bulletin board this missing person poster with the name Ray Capulto. Through dialogue we eventually find out that there hasn't been a missing person around for years, and Eric wishes that one day they soon find this missing person. This acts as foreshadowing for what will eventually happen to Eric. Eric then begins to walk into the woods, we added tension building music in the background while he walks through the woods, but we put it at a lower sound frequency to not have it too loud. We even added a binocular effect to Eric zooming in on a bird he finds.
Finally, as Eric is walking through the woods looking for more birds he comes across something unusual. As Eric goes closer to this to get a better view from his binoculars the camera follows a stick he walks past signaling that it has a level of importance later for the opening of the movie. Eric looks at this figure through his binoculars and sees a person, which he realizes is the missing person Ray Capulto from the poster he saw. As Eric begins to back off from him from fear and he steps on the stick by accident. This alerts the missing person and as his head turns quickly it really strikes fear into Eric since it was so sudden and he begins to run away.
For my next blog post I will be discussing what problems we ran into while recording that I want to fix for our final cut of the movie, and also student feedback for our movie!
