Skills Audit Table Updated
Today I am completing the skills audit table from 6.1 in the Media Studies for Cambridge International AS & A level book. The only change to it is I am doing the updated version for the skills audit table. This is because when I first started my blog posts this was one of the first things I did and said I would redo later in the year to see how much my skills in this class have changed. I will also be reflecting at the end on each skill.
Skill | I am good at this | I can do this but need to improve | I need to acquirethis skill |
Using a camera (photography or video) including those built into a mobile phone. |
|
| |
Recording sound either on its own or as part of a video. |
| ||
Using light for effect, either in still photography or moving image. |
| ||
Using video or photo editing software. |
| ||
Using desk-top publishing software |
| ||
Writing for specific purposes and audiences. |
|
| |
Producing social media such as Instagram, Youtube, TikTok, Facebook. |
|

Using online applications to enhance the meaning of texts, for example Prezzi, Powtoon, Slideshare. |

Just simply comparing this table to when I first completed the table, I have tremendously improved in many areas. For example, there are 5 skills that I can now say I am good at while the first time I completed this table I only had a total of 2 skills I was good at.
For the first row of skills titled “I am good at this” I had 5 which include writing for specific audiences and purposes, using desk-top publishing software, using video or editing software, recording sound either on its own or as part of a video, and using a camera (photography or video) including those built into a mobile phone. I firmly stand with the fact that I am good at these skills because of the amount of experience I have in working to get better at them. Just through the creation of my movie, I was able to significantly improve each of these skills. I am also extremely good at editing using a desk-top publishing software. While I wasn’t the one filming the movie most of the time since I was acting, I was still able to understand using a camera because of the constant questions I asked about using it and recording around 2 clips for the film.
For the second row of skills titled “I can do this but need to improve” there are a total of 2 skills which are producing social media such as Instagram, Youtube, TikTok, Facebook, and Using light for effect, either in still photography or moving image. Why I say I was unable to completely be good at these skills is again due to experience but the lack of it in these skills. I still produced social media multiple times throughout this class, especially when posting on YouTube, and understood light effects well while creating my movie. I even was able to achieve a slight dark lighting on my face while filming although being outside makes it very difficult to get the right lighting for a thriller movie. Regarding social media, Isimply just didn’t publish enough to get good at it.
For the last row of skills titled “I need to acquire this skill” I have 1 skill which is using online applications to enhance the meaning of texts, for example Prezzi, Powtoon, Slideshare. I did slightly use online applications to enhance the meaning of texts; however, it was nowhere near enough to at least get slightly good at it or understand it well.
