The Camera Used For Filming

Since the camera that is used doesn't get the credit it deserves sometimes in movies, especially since it's not usually shown during a movie except for in The Blair Witch Project, I will be putting the spotlight on the camera we used to film for both our final cut and midterm of The Bird Watcher: the Canon SX720 HS.

This camera gave us the quality we desired when filming our movie. Obviously we didn't have the budget for the more expensive cameras so we used our best option which was the Canon SX720 HS -also my sister's camera. I still loved how the footage looked even if the camera wasn't the most expensive. I was also able to enhance the footage's look through color grading.

To show the difference between recording on iPhone, which many people in my class did, and using this camera I will show a picture of similar clips to compare quality.

Now of course on first glance the first image from iPhone looks better, although for what we wanted to achieve for our movie the 2nd picture, or the one from the Canon SX720 HS, is the best. To explain, I will refer to one of my main inspirations for this movie: The Blair Witch Project. The camera footage is a lot fuzzier in the woods which gives the movie that eerie feeling as you watch it; that is what I tried through this footage where it looks fuzzier.

In general, looking at the camera used for my film allowed me to reflect on why I used this camera. As well, I was able to establish the camera's importance throughout my entire film The Bird Watcher.
