Camera Work Research/ Application to our own movie

Image
Today I am going to be looking into the elements of camera work which were implemented into our midterm movie. I will also be analyzing them and breaking them down, showing what our thought process was when we filmed it. Lastly, I will take examples of camera work from actual movies and see how I might be able to apply it, take inspiration from it, or how I already took inspiration from it and implemented it into this midterm movie. Eyeline/POV shots                                                     From this photo I am able to explain a few things about camera work in the movie in general, but it definitely needs some context. First, this comes from the view of a character in the movie (Ray Capulto), who is the missing person depicted in the climax of the movie at the end. From this photo and other shots in the movie not pictured in this blog, it can...

Week 3/Planning for filming

Time is completely flying by quicker than I thought and we have already reached week 3! With regards to the fact that we are nearing the halfway mark till blogs must be submitted along with our movies, my partner Lucca and I have planned a day for filming next week: Wednesday, March 4th. We are also planning on doing the same day the following week: Wednesday, March 11th, although there might be conflicting times due to my partner having work. Considering the fact that we not only want to reshoot many scenes of our movie, but also possibly change locations, edit, and then spend time on our opening credits: We definitely needed to give ourselves at least 4 weeks.  There will be blog posts about each filming day to make sure everything is up-to-date on any new information or updates there might be about either changing something during filming or completing a certain task.  I'm absolutely exhilarated to reshoot this film to say the least. Using the countless hours of resea...

Our Movie Props

Image
For movie props, this is one of those things relating to media I strongly believe me and my partner did well. For our midterm alone we spent a ton of time just thinking about which props we could have to enhance our movie. We also had to think about the conventions of media when choosing props. For example, since the movie opening would be following the life of a bird watcher, how do we want to portray him? Since we wanted to follow a more nerdy guy who is very clean and put together, we made sure we took that route with the props we chose. Each of these props are pictured below. As seen from this photo taken from the midterm movie, we put both glasses and a hat which the bird watcher, Eric, puts on in the movie. The glasses are a classic stereotype for nerds, which helps us portray Eric as one. Additionally, the hat adds to the nerdiness, but also makes sense since Eric is going out to be in the sun and wants to be protected from it. These binoculars from our movie weren't essent...

Midterm Movie Link!

After many attempts of trying to upload the video here, I have finally been able to upload it to YouTube after collaborating with my partner Lucca on making an account for AICE Media Studies AS. Linked below is the video for our midterm movie: The Bird Watcher. This YouTube channel will be dedicated to any new videos we work on for the class, especially our final cut. Youtube video link:  https://youtu.be/UGpbrUiKvRI Regarding the midterm and the final cut (to be completed in the future), there will be multiple blog posts about it soon. These include props, location scouting, etc.

Skills Audit Table

Image
Today I am completing the skills audit  table from 6.1   in  the Media Studies for Cambridge International A S & A level book.  My reasoning for completing this table is that I will use this for  a reference as to what I need to  improve on  in this class, what  I’m  already good at, and what I need to learn. Later in the year I will return to this table  and do it again. This will  represent  how much I have improved  from today   ( 2/18/26 )  till   before we  must  s ubmit  our blogs.  Skill             I am good at this   I can do this but need to improve   I need to  acquire  this skill   Using a camera (photography or video) including those built into a mobile phone.               Recording sound either on its own or as part of a video.         Using light for effec...
